Professional Standards for B.C. Educators

I am posting the link to the website for the Professional Standards for B.C. Educators here: link

Additionally, the link to the PDF document which lists and discusses the professional standards can be found here: link.

The Professional Standards are nine standards for safe, professional practice for both Elementary and Secondary schools within British Columbia. All teaching staff are expected to follow and adhere to these standards as part of the profession and to refer to the website more broadly for situations which are less ‘clear’ regarding professional practice.

Reflection

The standards that British Columbia has are a series of best practices for professionalism more broadly. The most important standard though, in my opinion, is the first one for BC Educators: “Educators value the success of all students. Educators care for students and act in their best interests” (British Columbia Government, “Professional Standards for BC Educators”). It is our job as professionals to recognize that the students are in our care whilst they are in our classroom and that care needs to be for their well-being first and foremost: their guardians and the community at large trust us with their care. Each of the other standards comes out to support this care.
