This is a link to the British Columbia curriculum as it stands in 2021: here. The curriculum is a series of requirements for content, Big Ideas, and competencies that is guided by specific goals and rationale per subject.
Reflection
At this point in time, my understanding of the curriculum is that it is an improvement in terms of scope and inclusivity from the curriculum that I did my primary and secondary education within. While no system is perfect, and I am certain that there are details of the curriculum that are imperfect that I am not yet aware of, I am proud to engage with the curricular content as an educator. What excites me though is the flexibility to engage with my students on their own terms, which means that with these broad ‘rails’ for guidance I shall make certain to fulfil my obligations to them and engage their minds for the years to come.
